Winning in craps comes in more ways than one and many of the gamblers worldwide don't realize this.
Most of casion-goers who choose to be at the craps table only know that to win in the game, the dice will have to pass, that is the shooter will make a point before a seven is rolled.
Craps, unlike other Casino games, has another dimension which is commonly called betting the Don't. This is also referred to in the gambling world as the dark side of craps. In this dimension, if a player wager on he Don't he wants the dice not to pass. He hopes that before the point number, the shooter should have rolled a seven.
A player should however remember that betting on the Don't side is not something to be loud about. It is in fact considered as not being a team sport. Don't bettor usually stand quietly at one end of the table and remains quiet even if he is winning. This is when a seven is rolled first before a point.
So how does winning really become possible in the dark side of craps?
The Don't betting is exactly the reverse of betting that the dice will pass. In this dark side of craps, a bettor can even win the money on the comeout, that is if the shooter rolls a 2 or 3. However, if the roll is 7 or 11, he loses. So it follows that any other number is point. A bettor wins if the shooter rolls a seven before a point is repeated.
But it is not as easy as it seems. Players should know that betting Don't becomes complicated on the comeout roll. Here, 8 combinations of the dice will make one lose and two combinations will make one a winner. However, if the player survives, the odds will be better and everything will turn to his favor. With 4 or 10 points, a player has 1 to 2 odds in his favor; with 5 or 9 points he has 2 to 3 odds in his favor; and with 6 or 8 points he has 5 to 6 odds in his favor.
Betting for the dice to pass on the other hand requires 8 combinations to win and if there are only 3 combinations a player loses. In this side of the table, with 4 or 10 points, the odds are 2 to 1 against him; with 5 or 9 points, 3 to 2 are the odds against him; with 6 or 8 points, 6 to 5 are the odds against him.
The pass line bet and the Don't shows two of the best bets in casino. A pass line bettor has it against him a house edge of 1.41 which falls to 0.60 with double odds. A player who bets that the dice won't pass has a house edge against him of 1.40 and this drops to 0.59 with the double odds.
Don't bettor are considered villains of the craps table, with a pass line bettor getting most of the support of other players. But sometimes it pays to be different. And it always helps to learn how to play from both sides of the table so that there would be another shot in winning, even if the odds are great.
