A Crash Course on the Different Bets in Craps

One of the most difficult things to learn about the game of craps is the betting structure. When playing craps, bettors are required to place their bets on a certain spot in the table and each bet has its own set of rules – just like how it is with roulette.

Unlike roulette, however, where all you have to contend with is two colors (black and red) and the numbers 0-36, in craps, players can win in a great number of ways because of the dice combinations.

If you wish to have a crash course on the different bets in craps, here's what you have to know before you hit the casinos:

The Pass Bet We'll start with something easy, okay? The Pass Bet is one of the most popular bets in the game of craps. With the Pass Bet, you're rooting for the shooter to hit 7 or 11 – both shooter and Pass Bet taker wins if either of those numbers come out. And they lose if any of the numbers 2, 3 or 12 is rolled out. When the dice gives out any other number, it would become the point. The point must come out once more before a 7 is rolled out for the shooter and Pass Bet takers to emerge victorious.

The Come Bet The rules for the Come Bet are almost exactly the same with the Pass Bet except for one thing: the Pass Bet can be made for the come out roll while the Come Bet can only be made after a point has been determined.

The Field Bet This is a one-roll bet and it can be made any time of the game. With the Field Bet, you're to choose between two groups of numbers and hope that any number in your selected group comes out. The casino has a 5.5% advantage with this type of bet so take it only when you're feeling extremely lucky.

The Place Bet This bet is almost like the Field Bet. But this time, you get to choose one number only – anything among 4, 6, 8, 9 and 10 – and hope once more that it's rolled out before a 7.

The Proposition Bet If you're feeling very, very lucky – maybe it's time to make a proposition bet. There are several types of proposition bets but its results all depend on the NEXT roll. So if you chose an Any 7 Bet, you're betting that a 7-out would occur on the next roll.
